Janis Blaswich has been called up by national coach Julian Nagelsmann for the last international matches of the year. The 32-year-old goalkeeper has been rewarded for his recent excellent performances in the RB Leipzig shirt. "Janis is a goalkeeper who is a good footballer but is also very strong on the line and has good charisma," said Nagelsmann on Friday at the nomination ceremony. The former RB coach had "never met Blaswich personally, but only as an opponent, and he was positively crazy after the game, getting extremely excited when they didn't win. That always impressed me a lot, the way he stood back there."
The national coach nominated 27 players for his home debut against Turkey on November 18 in Berlin and the clash against Austria in Vienna three days later. Benjamin Henrichs, who was recently injured, is back in the DFB squad. David Raum, who was initially left out, was also called up on Friday afternoon to replace Robin Gosens from Union Berlin.
RB coach Marco Rose had already reported Raum's late nomination at the press conference ahead of the Freiburg game this Sunday (7.30pm/DAZN). The reason for the last-minute change: Gosens is expecting the birth of his second child in the coming days and therefore wants to stay with his wife. Leipzig striker Timo Werner was once again left out.
