The VC Bitterfeld-Wolfen volleyball team's run of success has come to an end. Coach Alessandro Lodi's charges lost their home game against SVG Lüneburg on Sunday in three sets (15:25, 26:28, 19:25). They conceded their first defeat in their fourth match. Maxwell Elgert, who was honored as the game's most valuable player, converted the first match point for the visitors after 73 minutes. The newly promoted team from Saxony-Anhalt dropped to fifth place in the table.
The hosts missed the first half in front of 400 spectators in the Bernsteinhalle in Friedersdorf and did not have the slightest chance. The Bitterfeld side then improved, led 8:5 in the second set and were 16:15 ahead. The team from Lüneburg turned the game around with three points in a row and had the better nerves in the decisive situations at the end of the second set. The visitors then held on for a deserved win.
