Leipzig is setting standards in Saxony: with over 13,000 digital applications and comprehensive new online services, it leads the way in the motor vehicle sector.

The Vehicle Registration and Driver Licensing Authority in Leipzig processed the most digital applications for registration processes in Saxony last year. With a total of 13,644 digital processes, the city leads the ranking of motor vehicle services in digital format.

The authority's full report, which is available at leipzig.de/zulassung and leipzig.de/fahrerlaubnis is available provides detailed insights into current developments and trends in the registration and driving license processes.

The report provides comprehensive information on the number of driving licenses exchanged last year, changes in Leipzig's vehicle population and which administrative processes can currently be carried out completely online. The authority processed a total of 127,267 registration processes last year. Of these, 2,225 were implemented as enforcement measures due to measures such as expired insurance cover or defective vehicles.

Of particular note is the performance of the driving license authority, which issued 30,102 driving licenses and revoked 720 driving licenses during the period under review. In the area of traffic permits, Leipzig recorded 11,533 permits issued in accordance with Section 46 StVO, including 5,323 resident parking permits issued and 568 large and heavy goods transport permits.

A significant step forward was made with the introduction of the digital application for the first driving license. This makes Leipzig the first municipality in Saxony to successfully establish this service. In the coming years, there are plans to further expand the range of digital services in order to provide citizens with improved and simplified access to administrative processes.
