Three months after the introduction of the Deutschlandticket, the transport associations in Saxony are drawing a positive conclusion. Passenger numbers increased significantly in many places - especially on the route between Dresden and Leipzig.

The Deutschland-Ticket has proven itself in Saxony according to the five transport associations. On some rail routes, significant increases were recorded, as the Upper Elbe Transport Association (VVO) told the Deutsche Presse-Agentur in response to an inquiry. Compared to the pre-pandemic year 2019, there had been an increase of more than 39 percent in May on the railroad line between Dresden and Leipzig. The Dresden S-Bahn also achieved an increase of more than 23 percent in May.

The Central German Transport Association (MDV) reported similar figures. According to the report, some of the rail companies attracted 20 to 25 percent more passengers due to the Deutschlandticket. "We therefore see ourselves confirmed in our demand to the political decision-makers at the federal and state levels, not only to continue to finance a Deutschlandticket, but above all to upgrade the offer," said a spokeswoman.

According to the Upper Lusatia-Lower Silesia Transport Association (ZVON), an increase in passenger numbers is particularly noticeable in the trains of the state railroads and the East German Railway (ODEG). The traffic group estimates this on approximately 20 per cent, whereby the portion in the rural area, where only few buses drive, is smaller than in the course of the railroad traffic or in the larger cities.

Also the traffic group Vogtland (VVV) sees the demand on the part of the passengers quite positively. It grows since introduction of the Germany ticket continuously. Thus alone over the VVV monthly approximately 2000 digital Germany tickets were driven out.

Somewhat more concrete numbers called the traffic group central Saxonia (VMS). Also here a constant increase of the passenger volume is to be registered. While on the cut-off date of May 30, the VMS had sold 14,174 Germany tickets, there were already 18,074 at the end of July. At the end of August, the association reckoned with around 18,700 tickets. Accordingly the numbers of the German course and the central German Regiobahn (MRB) were not counted thereby. In total, the VMS had gained 2260 new customers due to the Deutschlandticket.

Deutsche Bahn also reported 20 to 25 percent more passengers since the introduction of the 49 euro ticket.
