About 423,000 appeals have been lodged against the new property tax assessments in Saxony so far. This was reported by the "Sächsische Zeitung" and the "Freie Presse" on Monday. The spokesman for the Ministry of Finance, Roland Herold, said that there were various reasons why owners did not accept the notices. Some had discovered errors in their own information, while others did not agree with the new legal regulations.

"Around 246,000 appeals against notices on property tax valuation and around 177,000 appeals against notices on property tax assessment have been recorded so far," said Herold. The deadline was January 31. Four percent of the expected declarations were still missing.

Around two million properties and plots of land have to be revalued in Saxony. Based on the owners' declarations, the tax office issues two different notices: the property tax assessment notice and the property tax assessment notice. They form the basis for the assessment of property tax by the local authorities. The new property tax will be due from January 1, 2025.
