Saxony's Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer vehemently opposes the delivery of Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine. "Do we really want to accept that German missiles could strike Russia? I am clearly against the delivery of cruise missiles," the CDU politician wrote on the social network X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday. He added that the German government was repeatedly crossing self-imposed red lines. The daily horror and death demanded "new, intensive diplomatic initiatives by the free West."
Ukraine is putting pressure on the German government to supply Kiev with German Taurus cruise missiles for defense against Russia. Chancellor Olaf Scholz expressed restraint on Sunday. In a ZDF "summer interview" on the program "Berlin direkt," the SPD politician said that just as in the past, the German government would always review each individual decision very carefully - what goes, what makes sense, what the German contribution could be.
