Due to a severe gastrointestinal infection, two musicians from the band Santiano had to go to hospital and the premiere of the new tour in Schwerin was canceled at short notice.

Two musicians from the band Santiano have been taken to hospital due to a severe stomach bug and the premiere of their new tour in Schwerin has been canceled at short notice. "The dramatic development in the last few hours before the premiere took us by surprise," the band wrote on their Facebook page on Wednesday evening.

Keyboarder Arne Wiegand caught it in the afternoon during the sound check, and band colleague Hans-Timm "Timsen" Hinrichsen suffered the same fate at around 6pm. "He too has since been taken to hospital. Both were and are in a condition that made it impossible for us to play the premiere tonight with the best will in the world." The "Schweriner Volkszeitung" had previously reported.

The concert in Leipzig on Thursday (11.4.) was also canceled, a spokeswoman told the German Press Agency. The "Auf nach Doggerland!" tour was to continue as planned in Hanover on Saturday (13 April).

"We are beyond heartbroken. We still can't believe that this has just really happened," the band wrote on Facebook.

On Thursday morning, alternative dates were already communicated there: October 2 for Schwerin and April 19 for Leipzig. "The tickets will of course remain valid or can alternatively be returned to the advance booking office where they were purchased."

Santiano have been synonymous with rousing sea shanties for more than ten years. The band from the north is one of the most successful in Germany in recent decades.

Their first album "Bis ans Ende der Welt" catapulted Björn Both, Axel Stosberg, Hans-Timm Hinrichsen and Andreas Fahnert from Schleswig-Holstein and Brit Pete Sage to the top of the charts.
