The Südostlink power line is intended to supply southern Germany with surplus electricity from renewable energies in the north-east. Construction work has now been awarded in Thuringia and Saxony.

The grid operator 50Hertz has awarded the construction work for the approximately 85-kilometer section of the Südostlink power line through Thuringia and Saxony. This involves laying the protective pipes into which the underground cables will later be laid and building the stations along the route, as the company announced. According to the statement, the services have a total volume of around 450 million euros.

The approximately 540-kilometer-long route is expected to be used to transport electricity from Wolmirstedt in Saxony-Anhalt to Isar in Bavaria from 2027. In a second project, electricity from Klein Rogahn near Schwerin will also be transported to the south via the Südostlink. According to the operator, both lines will transmit around 4000 megawatts, which corresponds to the output of around 1400 wind turbines. 50Hertz is responsible for the planning in Saxony-Anhalt, Saxony and Thuringia.
