From Leipzig/Halle and Dresden Airports, fewer destinations and countries will be served this summer than last year. According to Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG, the new summer flight schedule at Leipzig/Halle will offer 29 destinations in 13 countries. Last year, there were 33 destinations in 16 countries. From Dresden, there will be flights to 14 destinations in seven countries. Last year, there were 22 destinations in twelve countries.
Ryanair and Lufthansa have canceled connections
"Tour operators react very quickly when certain destinations do not work," explained Group spokesperson Uwe Schuhart. There is always a certain fluctuation in destinations. Overall, the recovery after the coronavirus pandemic has been slow, especially in comparison to other European countries. In addition, the Irish low-cost airline Ryanair had already announced last October that it would continue to withdraw from Germany. Dresden and Leipzig, among others, will no longer be served. Lufthansa also canceled its connection from Leipzig/Halle to Munich.
Tourist destinations such as Antalya in Turkey are being served more frequently
Other airlines, on the other hand, are expanding their services. According to Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG, there are new connections from Leipzig to destinations such as Crete and Debrecen in Hungary. Turkish Airlines is also expanding its connections to the Istanbul hub. The summer flight schedule from Leipzig/Halle thus includes vacation destinations in Turkey, Spain, Greece, Bulgaria and Egypt. There will also be more flights from Dresden Airport to the popular vacation destinations of Antalya, Heraklion, Hurghada, Burgas and Varna. The summer flight schedule starts next Sunday.
