The hydrogen economy in Germany is being expanded with further investments. The company Sunfire GmbH plans to invest a good 255 million euros at its Dresden site and will receive 162 million euros in funding from the state. Federal Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) and Saxony's Economics Minister Martin Dulig (SPD) presented the funding notice in Dresden on Wednesday. The country Saxonia is involved with 30 per cent of the promotion sum.
In Dresden Sunfire Elektrolyseuren in two forms - alkali as well as high temperature technology - wants to produce. In North Rhine-Westphalia, Sunfire is planning a production landscape for alkaline electrolyzers, which will be funded with about 7 million euros from the federal government and the EU and the state of North Rhine-Westphalia (30 percent). Electrolysers are technical devices that can be used to produce hydrogen from renewable electricity in large quantities.

In addition, it is necessary to consolidate and expand the technological leadership of German companies in the production of electrolyzers.
According to Dulig, hydrogen as a new energy carrier is necessary for the ecological transformation of industry. "Earlier than others, Saxony has recognized this and joined forces. The Free State stands here at the side of the federal government and brings its innovative strength. We need imports just as much as local production."
