In the wage dispute at Deutsche Post, the trade union Verdi is also planning warning strikes in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia. Employees from distribution and delivery centers are being called to strike, the Verdi regional district announced.
Affected are the centers in Dresden, Ottendorf-Okrilla, Zwickau and Leipzig (Saxony), Magdeburg, Halle and Osterweddingen (Saxony-Anhalt) as well as Erfurt, Erfurt-Nohra and Suhl (Thuringia).
Employees in other federal states have also been called to go on warning strikes in mail centers. In addition, all parcel centers nationwide will be on strike in the late and night shifts until Wednesday morning, as Verdi previously announced. A company spokesperson said that the impact on customers could not be estimated at this stage.
Core points of the wage dispute
Verdi is demanding a seven percent pay rise in a collective agreement that would only run for 12 months and apply to around 170,000 letter carriers, parcel carriers and other logistics employees. The Post, which belongs to DHL, is offering an initial increase of 1.8 percent in a 27-month contract and a further 2.0 percent later on.
In addition, Verdi is insisting on three extra days' vacation to take account of the increased workload. Those who are Verdi members should even get four. Swiss Post, on the other hand, is only offering one extra vacation day for employees who have less than 30 vacation days a year - i.e. around two thirds of the workforce. The next round of negotiations is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday.
In recent weeks, Verdi has repeatedly called for warning strikes in the parcel and letter sectors. In some places, this led to significant delays in the delivery of consignments.
