Dresden becomes the fourth German city to join Unesco's 'Learning Cities' network

Dresden will be the fourth German city to join the international network for lifelong learning ("Learning Cities"). The city announced the corresponding classification by Unesco on Wednesday. A total of 64 cities in 35 countries have been included in the city network, which was founded in 2015. Education mayor Jan Donhauser (CDU) spoke of immense value for the city and "exciting prospects". The exchange within the network will further strengthen the local educational landscape.

"From early childhood education to comprehensive further education programs, we offer a wide range of learning opportunities for people of all ages and social backgrounds," explained Donhauser. With the ongoing development of the overall concept "Lifelong Learning in Dresden", the company is committed to a holistic approach to education. "The goal is clear: to make education accessible to everyone and prevent disadvantages."

"By exchanging ideas within the network, we want to learn from other learning cities in Germany and around the world, share our exemplary practices and develop innovative solutions together," continued the Mayor of Education. Dresden is motivated. Maria Böhmer, President of the German Unesco Commission, referred to education against the backdrop of global urbanization: "By 2050, 80 percent of all people will live in cities.
