In times of a minority government, parliament carries more weight. Saxony is the first state to have such a constellation.

President of the state parliament Alexander Dierks has hailed the re-election of Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer (CDU) as a "signal of stability for Saxony". Kretschmer had clearly prevailed in the state parliament in a secret ballot in the second round of voting against his opponents from the AfD and Free Voters - Jörg Urban and Matthias Berger.

At the same time, Dierks addressed the new balance of power in parliament. The CDU and SPD are dependent on ten votes from other parliamentary groups to form a majority. "The minority government requires a new political culture in parliamentary cooperation - I see this as an opportunity! We will develop new forms of cross-party exchange and look for compromises together," explained Dierks.
