As the governing parties in the state parliament, the CDU and SPD do not have their own majority. They therefore want to involve the opposition in the legislation. The majority for the planned procedure appears to have been found.

Ahead of the vote in the state parliament, a majority is emerging in favor of the consultation mechanism proposed by the CDU and SPD. The Parliamentary Secretary of the CDU parliamentary group, Sören Voigt, expects a decision "with a broad and stable majority", as he said in Dresden. Positive feedback has been received from all parliamentary groups except the AfD.

On Wednesday, the state parliament will vote on the so-called Saxon consultation and information agreement at the request of the governing CDU and SPD parliamentary groups. The aim is to involve the opposition at an early stage in the government's legislative proposals. The minority government made up of the CDU and SPD wants to ensure a majority in the state parliament in this way.

The parliamentary secretary of the SPD parliamentary group, Laura Stellbrink, also expressed optimism that there would be a clear majority in the vote on Wednesday. "The state parliament will now have significantly more and also significantly earlier opportunities to help shape legislative procedures that originate from the government," she said.

Support from BSW, Greens and Left

The Greens and the Left signaled their support. The wishes of their parliamentary group regarding the deadline for comments and the transparency of which demands had been accepted had been fulfilled, said Susanne Schaper, parliamentary group leader of the Left Party.

"As Bündnis 90/Die Grünen, we have negotiated a lot with the SPD and CDU, and important points have been taken up," said Franziska Schubert, leader of the Greens. We will see how this works in day-to-day operations.

The BSW intends to vote in favor of the motion "by an overwhelming majority", as the deputy parliamentary group leader Ronny Kupke said. They want to give the process and the state government a chance. "It depends on whether it is heard, how we can get involved."

AfD criticizes procedure

The AfD parliamentary group wants to reject the motion. "We will not support it," said parliamentary group leader Jörg Urban. He criticized the consultation mechanism as a "devaluation of parliament". The parliamentary committees are there to gather the opinions of the various parties and political forces. The AfD had already announced three weeks ago that it did not wish to participate in the process.
