The left-wing parliamentary group in the Saxon state parliament is focusing on a core issue of its 2024 election campaign with a campaign on safe healthcare.

The left-wing parliamentary group in the Saxon state parliament is focusing on a core issue of its 2024 election campaign with a campaign on safe health care. On Thursday, the parliamentary group announced a billboard campaign on large surfaces in November. "Health care must be available around the clock for all population groups, even if it is expensive. Those who need help must get it quickly, without long distances," explained party leader Susanne Schaper, who as a trained nurse is responsible for health in the parliamentary group. She referred to the fact that in the middle of this year in Saxony almost 500 established physicians were missing and in some places the closing of clinics is feared.

The leftists demand the preservation of all current clinic locations. "The structures have already been thinned out in Saxony since 1990 with all the harshness - of 125 hospitals, not even 80 locations are left," Schaper stressed. In the future, there should also be all-day polyclinics that provide an emergency room including an emergency outpatient clinic with surgery and internal medicine and, at best, other departments with a sufficient number of beds. "Hospitals should cover their costs, offer good working conditions and provide the best possible treatment. The demand to generate profits is out of place. Medical measures must be decided free of business calculations," it said.

In Saxony, a new state parliament will be elected on September 1, 2024. In June, there are also local and European elections. At a party conference this weekend in Chemnitz, the leftists want to get in the mood for the election year.
