While putting up posters: Pirate Party campaign worker threatened

In Dresden, there has been another attack on an election campaign team. On Saturday night, three men and a woman threatened four campaign workers from the "Die Piraten" party who were putting up posters for the upcoming state election in the Seevorstadt district, police said on Monday. The perpetrators also announced that they would tear down the posters. They then ran away.

The campaign workers reported the incident to a police patrol team a short time later. Several radio patrol cars and plainclothes officers then searched for the suspects, but were unable to locate them.

State security investigating

The state security took over the investigation into the threat. According to the police, they are investigating whether people from the far-right group "Elblandrevolte" were involved. On the same night, the window of an office of the "Die Piraten" party in the Neustadt district was also sprayed with paint.

Attacks on election campaigners

A week earlier, campaign workers had also been threatened while putting up posters in Leipzig. There had also been a number of attacks on campaign teams in Saxony before the European and local elections.

A brutal attack on MEP Matthias Ecke in Dresden at the beginning of May caused quite a stir. He was knocked down at night by several young men and injured so badly that he had to be treated in hospital.
