Bundesliga volleyball club Dresdner SC can continue to rely on the services of setter Sarah Straube in the coming season. As the six-time German champions and the 21-year-old announced at a press conference on Thursday, the national player has extended her contract by a further year. The Suhl-born player will therefore be entering her sixth season in Dresden.

Coach Alexander Waibl explained: "Sarah is an absolute key player for us. Of course, it's particularly extraordinary to be able to fill the important serving position with a player from our own youth team. Sarah is not only an outstanding director, but also an athlete who is able to deliver her best performance under the greatest pressure."

Straube came to the national base on the Elbe at the age of 13 and continued to develop in the DSC talent factory at VC Olympia. In August 2019, she received a double playing right for the first team and was already on the court in the cup victory in Mannheim in February 2020. A few months later, she signed her first professional contract with the DSC, which she extended by one season the previous year. After tearing her cruciate ligament in February 2023, she missed the rest of the season. Three weeks ago, the DSC co-captain suffered a torn ligament in her foot in the CEV Cup match against Neuchatel and is currently working on her comeback soon. "I see no reason to leave the club. The conditions in Dresden are excellent and I feel extremely comfortable here," said Straube.
