Art historian Bernd Ebert is to become Director General of the Dresden State Art Collections (SKD). According to dpa, the Saxon cabinet will discuss the appointment at its meeting on Tuesday and still has to approve it. The Ministry of Culture has invited people to attend the "appointment of the new Director General" in the afternoon - in succession to Marion Ackermann, who will become President of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation in Berlin. Deutschlandfunk previously reported on the appointment, citing government circles.
Ebert, born in 1972, is currently head of the collection of Dutch and German Baroque painting at the Alte Pinakothek in Munich. According to Deutschlandfunk radio, he has worked and curated for museums in South Africa, Asia, Europe and the USA, among others, and was also responsible for international relations at the Director General of the National Museums in Berlin. In 2013, he moved to the Bavarian State Painting Collections.
