The Moritzburg Stallion Parade has once again proven to be a visitor magnet in its first edition this year. With 5500 spectators, the spectacle at the Moritzburg State Stud was completely sold out on Saturday. Federal Minister of Agriculture Cem Özdemir (Greens) had opened it with his Saxon counterpart and party colleague Wolfram Günther in the early afternoon.
At the start, 135 horses were presented to the audience. Also on the two coming weekends - on 17 September and 23 September - stallions of the groups heavy warmblood, cold blood and Haflinger and noble blood Haflinger or also riding horses can be regarded here. Cold-blooded horses, for example, are horse breeds that are characterized by high body weight and calm temperament and serve as draft horses.
Land Stable Master Kati Schöpke, managing director of the Saxon stud administration, sees the great demand from the public as evidence of the event's growing reputation. "I think the reputation of the Moritzburg Parade has spread quite far in recent years." He said they often have guests from the Czech Republic, Poland, the Netherlands, Denmark and Lithuania, as well as media interest from Great Britain this year. The stud had once delivered 24 black horses to the Horse Guard of the English Queen in 1986.
The first Moritzburg stallion parade took place in 1924. It is considered an annual highlight at the state stud, which was founded in 1828. Since 2009, the state stud has been modernized at a cost of millions - performance tests for stallions and mares are held there and horse trainees are trained.
