The trade union Verdi has called on employees of two Lufthansa subsidiaries in Dresden and Leipzig/Halle to go on a warning strike. Numerous flights were canceled.

The warning strike by Lufthansa Airport Services employees has led to numerous flight cancellations at Leipzig/Halle and Dresden airports. At Leipzig/Halle, five flights from Frankfurt, three from Mallorca and one each from Vienna and Düsseldorf were canceled on Wednesday, according to the current arrival and departure schedules of the airports affected. In Dresden, four flights each from Frankfurt and Munich and one each from Mallorca, Zurich and Düsseldorf were affected.

The background to this is a day-long warning strike called by the Verdi trade union for Lufthansa Airport Services employees. A Eurowings spokesperson had previously stated that the three flights to Mallorca planned for that day would take place. However, they have been rescheduled to Berlin's BER airport. Passengers have been informed of this, he said.

The wage negotiations at the two subsidiaries Airport Services Leipzig and Airport Services Dresden have not yet resulted in an agreement. Meanwhile, Lufthansa announced that it would be closing both companies. Around 140 employees are affected. Tasks such as aircraft handling are to be taken over by external service providers in future.

The connections affected by the warning strike are often used as feeder flights to the air traffic hubs. Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt are on their fall vacations, while in Saxony they begin next week. Many people in Saxony are also likely to use the Day of German Unity for an extended weekend and in some cases for an earlier start to the vacations. Some schools are already off on Friday.
