Leipzig/Halle Airport is expecting around 40 fan flights during the European Football Championship. Special flights are expected from Lisbon, Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Zagreb, Milan and Rome, among others, Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG announced on Thursday. In addition, officials from the European Football Union UEFA, media representatives, VIPs and other guests will be using the regular flight connections. An increase in the number of flights by business and private aircraft is also expected.
A particular challenge, according to the operator, is that Leipzig/Halle will be the only airport of the host cities in Germany where the summer vacations begin during the group stage. In order to ensure that everything runs smoothly during this period, all passengers are requested to arrive at the airport in good time, i.e. at least two and a half hours before their departure. Leipzig will host preliminary round matches on June 18, 21 and 24, followed by a round of 16 match on July 2.
