Hundreds of thousands of children in Saxony are returning to school. After the summer vacation, the police are keeping a close eye on traffic in front of schools.

At the start of the new school year, the police in Chemnitz stepped up traffic checks in front of schools. As a rule, people drive carefully there - especially when children are pointed out, said a police spokeswoman. More than 500,000 girls and boys are returning to school today after the summer vacations.

The spokeswoman said that it can get particularly tight and confusing where parents let their children out of the car in front of schools. The police department mainly checks the speed at which road users drive near schools. Increased checks will be carried out not only at the beginning of the new school year, but also at the start of the semester, it said.
