The reservoirs in Saxony for drinking and industrial water are currently almost completely full. According to a spokeswoman for the state reservoir administration, the reservoirs are currently at around 100 percent of their capacity and offer an ideal starting point for the supply in 2024.
Due to a precipitation-rich autumn and winter, there were high inflow volumes into the facilities. In some cases, more water could be stored than in previous years, according to the authority. There was even a small flood at Christmas. However, the inflows are currently lower again due to the early summer drought and are "significantly below the long-term comparative values for March and April". But even if the drought continues, the spokeswoman added that the supply is secure according to current knowledge.
The state reservoir administration operates 25 drinking water reservoirs in the state. According to the information, around 40 percent of Saxony's drinking water comes from reservoirs. To avoid bottlenecks when there is little rainfall, many of the dams are connected to each other by pipeline systems. This way, the water can be directed to where it is needed, according to the information.
