A portion of production at Volkswagen's e-car factory in Zwickau is being shut down again. The reason for this is a lack of motors, a company spokesperson said on request. These are being sourced from the plant in Kassel. However, fewer of the required electric motors are currently being produced there due to disruptions in the supply chain, he said. Volkswagen wanted to secure the ramp-up of the ID.7 model in Emden so that the motors would be delivered there as a priority - to the detriment of the Zwickau site.
VW had only cut back the production of electric cars in Saxony for two weeks in October. The reason given for the move at the time was weakening demand. The new production break should begin on Thursday with the late shift. The production line for the ID.4, ID.5 and two Audi models will then be shut down for around three weeks. Production of the ID.3 and the Cupra Born will reportedly continue. According to the company, around 1500 employees will be affected. Among other things, further training measures are planned for them. The "Freie Presse" had previously reported on the move.
