Travel on the Harz narrow-gauge railroads (HSB) is becoming more expensive. Unlike last year, not only are the prices for all trips to the Brocken rising - some of the prices for the Harzquerbahn and Selketalbahn will also be increased from March 1, as the railroad company announced in Wernigerode on Tuesday. The reasons are adjustments to the economic development, which are unavoidable, it said.
In concrete terms, the price for a one-way Brocken ticket will be raised by two euros to 37 euros, the return journey will now cost 55 euros, and the cheaper afternoon fare will be 47 euros. According to HSB, the prices for multi-day tickets and all other travel offers to the 1141-metre-high Harz summit will also be increased. For the Harzquerbahn and Selketalbahn, the price per kilometer applicable to the distance-based tariff will have to be raised slightly, according to the statement.
The HSB operates the longest continuous narrow-gauge network in Germany, covering around 140 kilometers in Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt. The track is one meter wide. The company's steam locomotives are one of the best-known tourist attractions in the Harz Mountains.
