Saxony's Minister President Michael Kretschmer (CDU) sees the planned special fund of 500 billion euros to finance infrastructure measures as a way out of the crisis. However, he said that these investments would only make sense if the brakes on growth were removed first. "We need a right to accelerate planning, we need to do away with the right to sue associations. Investment in this state must be accelerated."
Kretschmer expects that Saxony will have 500 million euros per year available for investment from the special fund from 2026. The money will help to ensure that "the next few years are not just lost years".
Much more could be invested in schools, kindergartens, hospitals and in the digital and transport infrastructure. It is not yet possible to say what consequences the planned relaxation of the federal debt brake will have on the debt brake of the federal states.
