By next summer, a modern indoor riding arena with grandstands should be ready for use by the Moritzburg State Stud. This includes jumping, riding and warm-up halls for training and further education as well as a new feed storage facility, as announced by the Ministry of Finance at the topping-out ceremony for the hall on Thursday.
The Free State is investing 24 million euros in the project. This sends a clear signal for the future of the historic state stud, said Finance Minister Hartmut Vorjohann (CDU). The hall, built to international standards, will offer the best conditions for horses and people with 800 grandstand seats.
According to the ministry, the hall will be built in a sustainable and environmentally friendly wood hybrid construction. A photovoltaic system on the roof will supply the stud farm with environmentally friendly solar energy in future. The hall will also be equipped with a so-called ebb and flow system, which can be used to remove or add moisture to the sand - for optimal riding surfaces.
According to the ministry, the state has invested almost 30 million euros in the modernization of the stud farm since 1991, including the hall, which included a parade ground with covered and mobile grandstands for major events.
Horse breeding in the Moritzburg stables dates back to a decision by Saxon King Anton the Good in 1828. Since then, mainly heavy warmbloods have been bred, but also riding horses.
Nationalized in 1952, breeding has been under the control of the Saxon Horse Breeding Association since 1990. The Moritzburgers are known nationwide for their stallion parades. The spectacle, which has been held since 1924, where horses and riders put on dressage and team demonstrations, attracts tens of thousands of visitors from Germany and abroad every year.
