Due to continuing inflation, the Studentenwerk in Leipzig is increasing meal prices - with a few exceptions. Other Saxon cities are keeping prices stable.

The Studentenwerk Leipzig is increasing the prices of meals in the canteens and cafeterias as of August 1. "Due to the ongoing inflationary developments, we are now unfortunately forced to implement another fundamental price increase for canteen meals in almost all meal categories after five years," said the Managing Director of Leipzig Student Union.

The prices are to be increased by 10 cents to 1.10 euros per meal for university and student union staff and by 60 cents to 1.20 euros for guests of the university. For students, only a selective price increase is planned for some of the dishes on offer: For dishes such as pizza, Köttbullar with sweet potato puree or pollock fillet, they will pay 10 to 75 cents more per meal in future.

In other Saxon canteens and cafeterias, however, no price increases are initially planned. When asked, the Studentenwerke Dresden, Freiberg and Chemnitz/Zwickau stated that there are currently no plans to increase meal prices.
