Saxony's tourism industry was pleased to see an increase in the number of overnight stays last year. Individual vacations in particular are on trend. However, the coronavirus crisis is still having an impact.

Significantly more tourists came to Saxony again last year. A total of 7.9 million guests were counted, 13 percent more than in 2022, according to the State Statistical Office in Kamenz on Tuesday. The number of overnight stays increased by 10.9 percent to 19.9 million. However, the pre-corona level was not reached: the number of guests was 6.6 percent and the number of overnight stays 4.3 percent below the 2019 figures.

The statisticians recorded the largest increases compared to 2022 in vacation homes and apartments, with around a third more guests. Campsites also recorded significantly more guests than in 2022, with an increase of around 28 percent. The number of overnight stays for both forms of individual vacations was significantly higher than in 2019.

In addition, the number of guests and overnight stays increased in all travel regions compared to 2022. Dresden was the frontrunner with 2.1 million guests and 4.4 million overnight stays. Leipzig recorded 2.0 million guests and 3.8 million overnight stays, making it the only travel destination to exceed the 2019 figures.
