People with less money are to be able to buy the Deutschlandticket in Leipzig more cheaply from next year. Instead of 49 euros, they are to pay 29 euros. The difference is to be paid from the city budget, the city administration announced on Friday. The opportunity is to be created for holders of the Leipzig Pass. The pass is given to residents of Leipzig who receive social welfare, basic security or other support. The city council must still vote in December on the project.

The discounted Germany ticket is initially planned until 2025. The city expects subsidies of 3.53 million euros next year and 3.95 million euros the year after next. If the price of the Deutschlandticket rises, the discounted ticket will also become correspondingly more expensive. The city would pay an unchanged 20 euro subsidy.
