Saxony's Juso chairwoman Mareike Engel agrees with the criticism of the coalition agreement between the CDU/CSU and SPD in the federal government. The agreement does not answer the current central problems of society, Engel told the German Press Agency.
She particularly criticized the agreements in the areas of work and social affairs. For example, she said that social democrats could not advocate a move away from the 8-hour working day. In the area of asylum and migration, Engel also sees right-wing narratives being perpetuated "to a certain extent" - as was already the case during the election campaign.
She is not a fan of an alliance between the SPD and the CDU/CSU, said Engel, who is also the deputy federal chair of the SPD's youth organization. "But I am also aware of the implications of this election result." They want to propose renegotiations on the controversial points to the party.
SPD surveys members until April 29
CDU, CSU and SPD concluded their coalition negotiations last Wednesday. The SPD will begin a survey of its 358,000 members tomorrow. In Saxony, the party has around 4,600 members, while the Jusos have around 1,400, according to Engel. The online voting process will last two weeks and end on April 29.
Federal Juso chairman Philipp Türmer and several state associations also expressed their criticism. "Our vote is rejection," said Türmer in the RTL and ntv program "Frühstart".
However, the Saxon Juso state association did not explicitly recommend voting against the treaty. According to Engel, the positioning is "not yet finalized" because the state conference is only due to take place on 26 April shortly before the end of the vote.
The CSU has already approved the agreement. The CDU will hold a small party conference at the end of April to decide on the planned coalition.
