CDU: "Saxony money" for owner-occupied residential property

The CDU in Saxony wants to promote home ownership with a "Sachsengeld". This is intended to make it easier for young families in particular to buy their first home, the party announced on Thursday evening with reference to the draft of its government program for the coming legislative period. "The money is to be used to reimburse part of the real estate transfer tax for first-time buyers for owner-occupation: 10,000 euros per buyer and 5,000 euros per child," it said. This support would apply until a reform at federal level, which would give the federal states the opportunity to introduce such allowances for real estate transfer tax.

"We want the home ownership rate in Saxony to approach the national average," the Union writes in its draft. According to the Federal Statistical Office, around 42.1 percent of German households currently live in their own four walls. In Saxony, the rate was 34.6% in the last survey in 2018. The CDU also wants to promote new models of cooperative housing and living, "because housing cooperatives play an important role in affordable housing".

The government program is entitled "Because it's about Saxony" and is to be adopted at a state party conference on 15 June. "We want to continue to take responsibility for the Free State and work together with the Saxons on a good future for our home state. We stand up for those who are driving this state forward, i.e. the broad middle of society," explained Secretary General Alexander Dierks.

On the subject of refugees and migration, the Saxony CDU is in favor of an upper limit for asylum seekers. This should be a maximum of 60,000 people per year. "We also want to achieve a Europe-wide harmonization of services as well as fair distribution and financing." Family reunification should be limited to the nuclear family and "irregular migration" should be permanently reduced: "To this end, we are calling for further stationary border controls with the possibility of refoulement and measures to search for illegal immigrants until the European Schengen system is effectively implemented again."
