The Commissioner for Eastern Germany, Carsten Schneider, is likely to resign from office. The SPD politician made this clear after the conference of East German minister presidents in Berlin. The position of Commissioner for Eastern Germany should be retained and it should continue to be located in the Federal Chancellery, said Schneider. However, it was important for his administration that he had the personal trust of Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD). This political power was needed. Now that someone else is likely to become chancellor, Schneider said of his office: "That will end then."
