The Dresden SC volleyball players have been eliminated from the CEV Cup. Coach Alexander Waibl's team lost the second leg in their home arena against Swiss champions Viteos Neuchatel UC 1:3 (20:25, 25:13, 18:25, 22:25) after an injury to setter Sarah Straube in the fourth set. The Dresden side had won the first leg 3:2 a week ago.
This time, however, Grace Frohling was missing right from the start. The diagonal attacker had torn a ligament three days earlier in the league match in Suhl and will be out for at least four weeks. In addition, the match was on a knife-edge shortly before the start: It had rained into the hall in Dresden. The pitch was also affected.
Dresden did not get into the game at all in the first set and appeared very nervous. Neuchatel quickly pulled 16:8 ahead. A jolt went through the DSC team in the second set, the serving was very good, the reception was more stable and the attacking play more varied. However, after equalizing the set and losing the third period, Straube twisted her left foot at 12:13 and was unable to continue the match. She was replaced by the young Larissa Winter. In the end, the DSC was unable to make up for the loss.
