Dresdner SC's volleyball players have made a successful start to the new year. The team of coach Alexander Waibl won 3:0 (25:20, 26:24, 25:10) against Rote Raben Vilsbiburg on the 13th matchday of the Bundesliga. With their eleventh win of the season, the team from the city on the Elbe did their duty and consolidated third place in the table.
The visitors were shocked right at the start of the game after a few rallies. Greek attacker Anna Spanou twisted her ankle unintentionally and had to be carried off the court after several minutes of treatment. She was replaced by the Spaniard Cayetana Lopez Rey. While the Red Ravens initially had to gather themselves, Dresden pulled away clearly with powerful tasks, variable attacks and secure defending.
The seventh-placed club in the table put up much more resistance in the second half and built a clear 12:5 lead thanks to a series of serves by Monika Salkute. However, the DSC, who had lost the thread, stabilized and started a comeback. In crunch time, the hosts fended off two set points from their opponents and were able to take a 2:0 lead in the set in the end, also thanks to a few mistakes by the Ravens. That was the crucial point. Vilsbiburg's resistance was broken in the third period.
