After VW has fixed the software malfunction, the plants in Saxony will start up again as scheduled

After fixing the software glitch, VW is also ramping up its plants in Saxony. "Production at the Saxon sites in Zwickau and Chemnitz started 6:00 a.m. as scheduled and without problems," a spokesman for VW Saxony said when asked. "In Dresden, production is scheduled to start regularly at noon."

The IT disruption had paralyzed the Volkswagen Group's central network on Wednesday, halting production at all German sites. "The IT network problems increasingly affected the Saxon sites from yesterday afternoon and led to a production stop later in the day," the spokesman said. "The late and night shifts were used to make all preparations to start production today in the morning shifts on a regular basis." VW operates three plants in Saxony with a combined workforce of more than 10,000: Zwickau, the Transparent Factory in Dresden and the engine plant in Chemnitz.

VW Group headquarters had reported Thursday morning that the disruption had been eliminated. "The IT infrastructure problems in the Volkswagen network were resolved during the night, and the network is working stably again," said a spokesman in Wolfsburg. "The affected applications are currently being booted up again. The global production network is starting up, and production is expected to go ahead as planned." However, individual systems could still be affected "in a transitional phase." He added that there were still no indications that the disruption was caused by external influences.
