In Saxony, more and more people in need of care are dependent on additional state assistance to cover the costs. This is according to an answer from the Federal Statistical Office to a question from the Left Party group in the Bundestag. According to this, 21,820 people in need of care in Saxony received so-called care assistance in 2023, 3,925 more people than in the previous year.
The Left Party is calling for a reduction in the personal contribution: "There are care homes in Saxony where all or almost all residents need help from the social welfare office. They are considered social cases, even if they have worked hard all their lives," explained Susanne Schaper, Chairwoman and social policy spokesperson for the Left Party parliamentary group in the state parliament.
The Left parliamentary group is calling for a care allowance from the state, financed by payments into the statutory care insurance. "However, the problem can only be solved fairly if everyone has to pay contributions into the statutory long-term care insurance scheme, including those with high incomes from work or the financial market," said Schaper.
