Rising temperatures and the first rays of sunshine are not just a reason for people to be happy. Animals such as frogs also take advantage of the onset of spring - but not without danger.

The city of Chemnitz has taken protective measures for the amphibian migration over the next few weeks and is asking people to help. According to the city, a lot can already be done by being careful on the roads. There are ten different species of frogs, toads and newts in the entire city area, which will now be migrating from their hibernation sites to their spawning grounds until the end of April, especially at dusk and at night.

According to the city's environmental department, the roads on the animals' way are the greatest danger for the small creatures. Until the end of April, drivers are asked to slow down and take extra care when following the signs "Attention amphibian migration" so as not to overlook the amphibians crossing the road. Fences, underpasses and volunteer helpers should also make it easier for them to reach their destination unharmed.
