In the criminal trial for the burglary of the Dresden Green Vault, the court refused to determine the amount of damages. The Free State now wants to hold the museum's security company accountable.

Almost a year after the end of the first criminal trial in the case of the theft of jewels from the Dresden Green Vault, a hearing is being held on claims for damages. On Tuesday, a civil chamber of the Dresden Regional Court will deal with the Free State's lawsuit against the security company of the Dresden State Art Collections (SKD). The case involves a good 15 million euros plus 300,000 euros for repairs to the museum, as a court spokesperson said on request. "No verdict will be issued, but a date will be set for an announcement." Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (MDR) reported earlier.

The Free State of Saxony accuses the security company of misconduct by four security guards during the spectacular break-in into the historically reconstructed part of Saxony's Treasury Museum. In the course of the investigation, no breaches of duty could be proven against the company or individual employees.

The art theft from the museum in the Residenzschloss on November 25, 2019 was one of the most spectacular in Germany, in which the perpetrators stole 21 pieces of jewelry with diamonds and diamonds worth 116.8 million euros. In May 2023, five young men from the well-known Remmo clan in Berlin were convicted, now legally binding. In their trial at the Dresden Regional Court, a large part of the loot was returned as part of a deal at the end of 2022.

The judges had affirmed the Free State's claim for damages, but refused to set a specific amount as it would be too costly and time-consuming to determine.
