Last year, the State Office for Road Construction approved more than twelve million euros for cycling projects. The aim is to achieve a sustainable and climate-friendly turnaround in transportation.

12.8 million euros were spent on promoting cycling in Saxony last year. As announced by the State Office for Road Construction, the authority approved a total of 36 applications in 2024. The projects were financed from state and federal funds. The aim was to create around 16 kilometers of new cycle paths "to further increase the attractiveness and safety of cycling".

"This important funding will not only improve the infrastructure for cycling, but also make a significant contribution to promoting sustainable mobility and climate protection in Saxony," said the president of the state office, Saskia Tietje.

Among others, projects were initiated in Leipzig, Oelsnitz and Lugau in the Ore Mountains and Limbach-Oberfrohna in the district of Zwickau.
