The Königshainer Berge tunnel on highway 4 will be completely closed for several days. This is due to construction work that has already been delayed. Drivers will have to take detours.

The renovation of the Königshainer Berge tunnel on the Autobahn 4, which has been ongoing for almost a year, continues. From next Tuesday morning until Thursday evening, the tunnel will be fully closed in both directions, as announced by the federal highway company. The reason for the closure is reconstruction work as part of the ongoing modernization work. Detour have been signposted.

The renovation work, which has been ongoing since April 2024, had been delayed. This was due to problems with the rock excavation work for the expansion of the emergency call niches. At the time, the work was expected to last until the end of February.

At 3,281 meters long, the Königshainer Berge tunnel is the third-longest freeway tunnel in Germany. It was opened in 1999. According to Autobahn GmbH, around 30,000 vehicles pass through it every day, around 40 percent of which are trucks.
