Children as speed enforcement officers - the "Blitz for Kids" campaign starts again. Primary school children hand out yellow and green cards to speeding drivers and urge them to be careful.

Drivers will have to be prepared for more speed checks in front of elementary school from Monday. Primary school pupils will then carry out speed checks together with the police for two weeks, as announced by the Ministry of the Interior. The aim is to sensitize road users to safe driving. The "Blitz for Kids" road safety campaign takes place every year.

In the first week, yellow cards are handed out to drivers who have been speeding. Those who adhere to the speed rules receive a green card. From April 7, things will become more serious for traffic offenders: the speed checks will be repeated and all violations will be punished consistently.

The road safety campaign has been in existence since 1995. Together with ADAC Saxony, it is intended to draw attention to the special protection of 6 to 15-year-olds on the way to school and during leisure time and to remind them to be particularly careful and considerate. According to the Ministry of the Interior, around seven percent of the 25,723 vehicles checked in 2024 were speeding, and a fine was issued in 212 cases. According to the data, 1,248 children were involved in road traffic accidents last year - compared to 3,038 in 1995.
