Some Christmas tree producers in Saxony are expecting prices to rise in 2024. Nevertheless, the Christmas tree should remain affordable for everyone.

A good four months before Christmas, some Christmas tree producers in Saxony are expecting prices to rise. "After many years, there will be a reduced supply of Christmas trees again in 2024," said Managing Director Saskia Blümel of the Association of Natural Christmas Trees to the German Press Agency. This will inevitably lead to higher prices.

Moderate price increases expected for consumers

However, the price increases are expected to be moderate so that they do not represent a major burden for consumers. "The price increase will be such that every consumer will still be able to afford a tree of the desired size and quality," assures Blümel.

Sachsenforst: More favorable conditions for 2024

The state-owned company Sachsenforst, which sells around 15,000 to 20,000 Christmas trees a year, is not yet able to make an exact forecast on price developments. They want to be guided by regional market prices. "2024 was more favorable for Christmas tree production in the state forest than significantly drier years before," explains Sachsenforst spokesman Renke Coordes. Accordingly, above-average amounts of precipitation were recorded.

Extreme dry periods, such as those that occurred in 2018, 2019 or 2022, have not yet occurred. This has allowed newly planted Christmas trees to grow well and existing crops to recover.
