Construction work on the railroad line between Merseburg and Querfurt starts in April

Construction work to modernize the tracks and stations on the section between Merseburg and Querfurt is set to begin on 8 April. This was announced by Deutsche Bahn in a press release on Wednesday. Eleven stations and eleven kilometers of track and two railroad bridges in Nemsdorf-Göhrendorf are to be renewed. The construction work is scheduled to last until June 28. There will be closures on the line during this period. Deutsche Bahn also announced that replacement bus services will be set up for the canceled trains. The construction work will cost the federal government and Deutsche Bahn a total of 22 million euros, it said. Most of the money, which will be used to make the platforms more barrier-free, will come from the Coal Regions Investment Act. The press release quoted Michael Theurer, Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister for Digital and Transport, as saying that the federal government is "providing considerable funds for structural strengthening in the coal regions until 2038".
