Saxony's new government is still in the coalition negotiation phase and is already facing financial problems. A lot of money is missing from the budget for the upcoming double budget.

There is a gaping hole totaling four billion euros in Saxony's budget for the next two years. "Even if some people still don't want to believe it - the financial situation in the Free State and in all other federal states is difficult. A new and clear prioritization of all expenditure items in the budget is required - there is no way around it," explained Finance Minister Hartmut Vorjohann (CDU) when asked. The "Leipziger Volkszeitung" and the "Sächsische Zeitung" were the first to report on the gap in the budget.

"Those who do not want to see the budgetary realities are not only leading a debate at the expense of future generations, but are also sawing at the branch on which they themselves are sitting," the minister went on to emphasize.

The Greens criticized an administrative regulation for provisional budget management planned for this year, which was also reported on by the two newspapers. According to this, ministries and authorities will only be allowed to spend a maximum of 55% of their previous expenditure on personnel, utilities, subsidies to state-owned companies and other statutory services until a new budget is adopted. An upper limit of just 15 percent is to apply to other expenditure.
