After London, Leipzig/Halle Airport is losing another metropolitan connection: Flights to Munich will be discontinued from next summer.

Lufthansa is canceling its connection from Leipzig/Halle Airport to Munich from summer 2025. "Due to the changed framework conditions since the pandemic and the massive increase in the cost of flying to and from Germany, most recently with the noticeable increase in air traffic tax, the profitability of individual routes is no longer given," a spokeswoman for the company announced. The "Leipziger Volkszeitung" had previously reported.

The spokesperson said that the company was forced to concentrate transfer traffic from the Leipzig/Halle region at the hub in Frankfurt am Main. According to the information provided, the service is to be improved on this route. There will then be up to five flights a day, compared to four at present. Lufthansa currently flies to Munich twice a day.

Leipzig/Halle Airport is thus losing its connection to another major city after the Irish low-cost airline Ryanair recently announced that it would no longer be flying to Leipzig, among other cities. This affects the connection to London. Ryanair has cut its services throughout Germany.
