Strike at Leipzig/Halle and Dresden airports

Travelers at Leipzig/Halle and Dresden airports can expect cancellations and delays on Thursday. According to the trade union Verdi, employees working in passenger control, passenger and goods control, cargo control and service areas are to strike. Passenger traffic in Leipzig and Dresden was already completely paralyzed at the beginning of the week. A similar situation is to be expected again.

"The airlines will be informed about the strike situation and will then decide what to do," said an airport spokesperson. Accordingly, passengers should enquire with the respective airlines about possible flight cancellations before they travel.

Verdi expects even more people to be involved in Leipzig and Dresden on Thursday than at the beginning of the week. The reason for this: in addition to the employees of Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG, who already went on strike on Monday, the aviation security staff are now joining in. However, this involves two different collective agreements. According to the union, around 30 aviation security staff are also planning to strike in Erfurt. However, there will be no impact on air traffic, as no departures or landings are planned in Erfurt on Thursday.

In addition to Leipzig, Dresden and Erfurt, strikes are also planned at other German airports - for example in Berlin, Düsseldorf and Frankfurt. Among other things, the union is demanding higher wages for employees. So far, no agreement has been reached in three rounds of negotiations. Further talks are planned for the coming week.
