Two elementary school from Saxony are in the next round of the competition for the German School Award 2024. "The fact that the two elementary school are taking part in the next round is a great success in itself," said Saxony's Minister of Culture Christian Piwarz on Wednesday. The CDU politician is "delighted for the teachers, who are thus receiving great appreciation for their commitment". The award ceremony with Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) is to take place on October 2 in Berlin.

The Geschwister-Scholl elementary school in Leipzig and the Thomas-Müntzer elementary school in Schkeuditz are to be visited in the coming weeks by members of a jury of experts who want to get an idea of the situation on site. The focus will be on the quality of teaching and the question of how the schools organize teaching and learning for their pupils. In addition to the two Saxon schools, 18 other schools from all over Germany are also in the running.

The German School Award is the most highly endowed award for schools in Germany. The main prize is endowed with 100,000 euros, five further school prizes with 30,000 euros each. The Robert Bosch Stiftung has been awarding the German School Award together with the Heidehof Foundation since 2006.
