Companies in Saxony's coal-mining regions that produce climate-friendly technologies can now receive funding. According to the Ministry for Regional Development, 40 million euros are available from the federal STARK program for the Lusatian coalfield and 20 million euros for the Central German coalfield. The aim is to support structural change and the creation of new jobs.
Investments in the production of solar panels, wind turbines, heat pumps and batteries will be funded. Grants could also be available for CO2 storage systems and the recovery of critical raw materials.
The program is also explicitly aimed at small and medium-sized companies. Between 15 and 40 percent of an investment project would be funded. Project outlines must be submitted by December 6, according to a statement.
