In Saxony, two committees are dealing with the coronavirus pandemic - a parliamentary committee of inquiry and a commission of inquiry. The committee of inquiry is now starting its work.

The AfD in the Saxon state parliament wants to rely on renowned expertise in the parliamentary committee of inquiry into the coronavirus pandemic. Bonn virologist Hendrik Streeck, for example, is to be invited as an expert. This is according to documents from the committee, which will begin its work on Thursday, initially in a closed session.

According to reports, Streeck is due to give evidence to the U-Committee in March. The renowned scientist works at Bonn University Hospital and was a member of the Federal Government's expert council on the coronavirus pandemic.

Committee of Inquiry formed at the instigation of the AfD

The Committee of Inquiry was formed at the instigation of the AfD. A large part of the BSW had agreed to the AfD motion to set up the committee. The members were elected unanimously.

The committee consists of 18 members, with the CDU representing seven MPs, the AfD six and the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) two. The SPD, Greens and Left Party can each send one MP. The chairman is CDU politician Andreas Nowak.

Commission of Inquiry begins work in February

The Commission of Inquiry to investigate the coronavirus pandemic is to begin its work on February 1 and present a final report by the end of 2027 if possible. According to the CDU, the commission should not only learn lessons, but also make a contribution to reconciliation and social cohesion.
